Description

Oil Summary: Petitgrain essential oil has been widely embraced as an effective natural stress remedy. But like many other essential oils, the benefits of Petitgrain are spread across a variety of health and lifestyle aspects. In addition to treatment for depression and insomnia, Petitgrain supports a strong immune system and healthy skin. Its woody aroma also makes it a regular ingredient in many brands of air fresheners and perfumes. Petitgrain has been particularly known for its olfactive characteristics, and is extensively used in the making of high-quality perfumes; including the French classic ‘Eau-de-Cologne.’ Petitgrain is one of three essential oils native to the orange tree (botanical name- Citrus Aurantium), the other two being Neroli and Bitter Orange. It is steam-distilled from the leaves and young twigs of the tree, whereas Neroli is extracted from the flowers, and Bitter Orange is typically cold pressed from the tough outer layers of the fruits. Infections on wounds, in the urethra, gall bladder, urinary tract, and kidneys are very common, not to mention babies are always susceptible to infections when they are born. These infections can cause acute pain in the affected areas, convulsions, stiffness in the muscle and joints, and sometimes death. Petitgrain essential oil can be used as an antiseptic since it fights infection by inhibiting bacterial growth.

Odor and Appearance : Petitgrain oil is mostly clear, with a hint of yellow. Its scent can be easily distinguished from its two sibling oils, Neroli and Bitter Orange.

Country of origin : Paraguay

Botanical Name : Citrus aurantium

Contraindication: As with all essential oils, internal usage is not recommended, unless working with a qualified practitioner. When using Petitgrain on the skin, apply a small amount of diluted oil to an insensitive part of the body to make sure you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients. Keep the bottles away from children, and unless advised by an expert, avoid using Petitgrain oil on babies. Petitgrain is essentially a relaxant and is, therefore, regarded as safe for pregnant mothers. Nevertheless, expectant mothers should seek the opinion of a professional.
