Oil Summary: Organic Winter Savory Oil is mostly an extract of the Satureja Montana and the Satureja hortensis plants. Satureja hortensis makes the summer savory essential oil. Satureja Montana produces the winter savory essential oil. Both essential oils are a product of the distillation of the plant and its blossoms. Satureja Montana and hortensis plants derive their name from the Latin word satureia, meaning ‘herb’. The Satureja plant is a bushy annual plant of 30cm height. Its leaves are aromatic, and it has dark green leaves, minute pink lilac flowers, and a hairy stem. They are native to the Mediterranean scrubland. Research shows that Organic Winter Savory Oil is very rosmarinic acid4 rich. Rosmarinic acid is a compound common in essential oils such as Perilla and Rosemary. It is a polyphenol5 that occurs naturally in the Lamiaceae family of plants such as sage, rosemary, and lemon balm mint. Rosmarinic acid has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant6 effects. It can also help protect the cells from cancer. This polyphenol also has immune-stimulating effects. It makes the Lamiaceae family of plants attractive smelling and a fantastic cooking ingredient. This is my first time using this oil. I bought it for its anti-viral properties. I love the smell. Plus I think the packaging of Un-roh-muh products are excellent. Items are less likely to get damaged in shipment.

Is winter & summer savory the same?

No they are not same. Winter savory is much stronger in flavor than summer savory. Summer savory is called Satureja hortensis and winter savory is called Satureja montana.
